Title: New 113H Frame, Spool and Sideplate Project
Post by: Black Pearl on July 25, 2015, 02:52:01 AM
Hi all,

Recently, my resource has little free time, so I have been given him a 113H body project. He will start the design drawing on the following items.

1.) Frame
2.) Spool
3.) Right side plate

In 4 colors, black, silver, red and green.

All these items are based on the Senator 113H, and all will be made in T6061 aluminum block. It does not require the ring as well.

The initial model will be a "Super Narrow" model. If everything is good, then a new model will be available.

Some of you might ask where is the left side plate. Here is the news, the left side plate will be part of the frame in one piece. If the price is right, we will see a sample in couple months.

Any suggestion, please let me know.

Thanks,
--Alan

Nice! I guess it's not really like I'd be buying a new reel(rationalization). So, I'm liking a 113h Senator Jr.! Flylining a sardine anyone?

Can't wait to see them.

Make that - I'm in for two(2)!

I'm in!  I'd love an extra narrow 4/0 reel, especially if it came with your 113hx gears and stainless bridge.

Hey guys,

We are not taking any order yet. This is a go project. I hope that I can keep the cost around $150.00 - $160.00 (for a set). We will also have the rod clamp with screw set for additional cost (don't have the price yet, but it should not be expensive).

I just got an update on this project. A sample will be available for testing by the end of next month.

Projecting price is around $150 to $165 for the right side plate, frame with left side plate (one piece) with stainless reel foot with rod clamp and screws and spool.

This will be a narrow 113H. To keep the cost down, we need to come with one color for the first production run. I am thinking all silver. Any suggestion on the color???

The spool width is 1.75". It will be available in a whole package deal (frame ,spool, side plate, rod clamp with SS screws, SS DD bridge, SS 10 teeth sleeve, SS 4:1 gear set and aluminum T-bar handle knob).

For comparison, here are the  dimensions, from http://www.tiburonfishingreels.com/senator , from inner ring to inner ring on the Tiburons:

Standard Width: 2.437"

Narrow, YTS Width: 2.125

Black Pearl Frame: 1.75"

This should be a great project, excellent wahoo reel, still plenty of line for live bait, and can be used for casting jigs.

For myself, the silver is ok, but I think a different color would look nice, what color is up to debate of course...

Title: Re: New 113H Frame, Spool and Sideplate Project
Post by: sundaytrucka on December 12, 2015, 09:55:32 PM
I think an off-white, or eggshell colored frame would look nice, might be a little too eccentric for some.

A deep, darker maroon color, similar to the Tiburon frame MarkT has, would come out clean.

My personal taste, after day dreaming some colors, I think a shiny, almost reflective copper finish would look amazing.

Which color will result in the hardest and longest lasting anodizing???

Black has been reported to yield the best and the finish gets weaker as the colors get lighter.

If the anodizing that is being used holds true to these color standards, then black would be it for me.

Alan, how much extra cost would be attached to running a 2, 3, or 4 different color anodizing process.

Maybe, if you are willing to deal with the extra process and cost it not prohibitive, could do a 2-4 color run.  Would allow color combos to be made (spool and frame only) and single color runs.

Maybe the majority would be willing to eat the extra cost.

We can decide what colors to be made after we have the sample set first. We might be able to made 25 sets each for 4 colors (Silver, black, red, green/blue).

I was a straight young banker in San Francisco way back when and wore a pink button shirt & tie down w/o issue.
Never had more fun!

Love the caddy!

I got nothing against the color pink unless it's on my fishing reel...and I've never worn one article of pink clothing. I grew up in Greenwich Village... Sorry, it's just the way it was.
Also, notice when Elvis started he was wearing black (like Johnny cash)? ...once he became a sex symbol he went to rhinestones and bright colors on his tight spandex. That was because he and his crew realized how to make a buck. Chicks evidently  dig... Bright colors, sequence, diamonds (every finger) and famous guys who wrap their body parts in tight packages while driving in their mint one of a kind caddy with an endless supply of money.
Back to reels... I'm gonna go watch  the notebook and PS I love you, lol

Hey, the custom color can be whatever... As long as I get my 1 red  1 silver 1 green it's all a bonus anyway👍
Sal, I was in for an extra green but as manly as pink is I ain't fishing in Brooklyn with a pink reel for many more than one reason. One big one is that I have some of the saltiest fishermen at my docks. They laugh at me when I tell them I use circle hooks... A pink reel, I gues I'm just not man enough... Id be better off wearing spandex grundens😳

Mine too,  but you can add Waylon and other "outlaws" to my list.  I saw Elvis once in person and never saw pink, but someone here was right about lots of bling on his skin tight clothes.  I went to Graceland about 30 yrs ago and saw the Cadillac, but the way I remember the story is that he bought it for his momma who did not drive and I think to this day the Cadillac has almost zero miles on it.  If I am wrong about the car and it's mileage--it wont be the first time. ;) ;D  I'm also with Dom, I might wear pink but not with a lot of macho buddies around ;D ::) ;)

If we are going the route of a jigmaster with this, maybe after that we could go for a 3/0 sized reel and use the double dog jigmaster bridge for it so we don't have to make a double dog 3/0 bridge..... Although a double dog 3/0 stainless bridge would be nice.....

Is the spool and frame the same diameter as a 113 ? I know Alan said the kit is based on the 113H with a 1.75" wide spool, I am just curious if the finished reel is more (or less) compact with 113H internal stuff.

Mike, as I understand it, you should be able to use stock guts from Penn or Alan's custom parts:  as for bridge, jack, yoke and gears.
On the Super Narrow of course you won't have a choice with the spool, you will need Alan's custom spool, but on the standard and wide, you should be able to use stock spools from Penn.
Keep in mind, Penn only has two colors ( when available ) for the standard and wide, black and red.
That was the original plan, but this is still at the beginning stages, so anything could change.
The Super Narrow is due in first with other widths to follow, but that would be up to Alan.

If you'll use your left-hand guts for that reel, I don't see why not.
I don't see custom left-hand gears being made from Alan, he would need lots of request and there aren't many asking.

No, not yet. We just finished the following samples in past months.

1.) 113H dual dog bridge
2.) 4/0 2nd gen gear set
3.) Jigmaster 500/501/112H 2nd gen gear set in 4:1 ratio.
4.) Jigmaster 500/501/112h standard gear set in 5:1 (4.8:1) ratio
5.) Alum round knob

So, my resource starts on this project as we speak. All parts' color will be matched. If a member can work with other member to exchange the color in parts, I will willing to do that.

Sorry, about the delay. My resource just has too many projects and not enough worker to work with.

Exciting stuff you have in store for us... looking forward to them.
I may have missed a thread, but can you tell me what the differences will be from the 1st gen 4/0 gear set to the 2nd gen gear set and likewise on the 2nd gen jig/112h sets (I'm in the market for 2 ss gear sets for my Cortez Conversion Jiggy's)?
Will the aluminum knobs come in colors?
Both jig master gear set will fit the 112h?
Is that list the order of things to come?
Sorry for all the questions, but I haven't bothered you in a while. ;D
Thanks in advance,

Hey Dom,

The 2nd gen gear set will have a 6 ears carbon drag washers and keyed metal washer (titanium or stainless steel).
The aluminum knob is in silver at first, then, I will have it in red, black and gold.
The new jigmaster gear set should work in 112H as well. Sal will have to test it.

Those items on that list will be available in 2 months after they are tested.

Thanks,
--Alan

Yes, it is. My resource wanted to finish up the Jigmaster frame and side plate first. Then, he will jump back on this 113H project.

Hi Alan, please put me down for one. Sliver, black or blue. Although, I don't have a blue reel yet so this could be my first.   ;D

Here is the latest update on this project.

We had to go back to re-design the length of the spool and one piece frame. Unfortunately, I will not disclose the spool measurement at this time. If you are interested to know more about it, you will just have to wait until the sample is ready.

No, I just have a lot of projects on the side. This project will take a long time on R&D.
