Have you heard of 13-Fishing? Well, I don't know about you, but other than the 'sport' of Gambling, I think Fishing is the most superstitious sport I've encountered. My late daddy told me never to step over a fishing rod, but to walk around it as stepping over will jinx it. Others believe that if you do not wash your bum (take note all you toilet paper users) and then go fishing, you're gonna catch nothing. Many believe that one should abstain from sex before a fishing trip or risk getting no bites. But the brand name seem intent to defy bad luck in the face.

While I was searching for a versatile reel that could generate enough drag force to slow down a Papuan Black Bass' determined sprint home, and at the same time is able to competently cast lures, names like Shimano Tranx HG, Daiwa Lexa HD, ABU Revo BigShooter WM60, Okuma Komodo 350 and Tailwalk Elan Widepower+ appeared on my list. These are reels that possess more than 20lbs of stopping power and and are low profile to boot. And in the midst of these these Goliaths, came this diminutive 13-Fishing Concept A reel, seeking to join in the ranks of the 20lbs+ club. But wait a minute...

I've serviced them and they are all "almost" the exact same on the inside as any other imported Baitcast reel.

LL, another fan of Remoil I see. You might try mixing it with CorrosionX to get various viscosities for spool bearings, I have made  25/75 and 50/50 Remoil/CX brews for various applications.
cheers

;D ;D ;D the "almost" reminds me of what a tout told me about the Breitling watches he was pushing to me at Bangkok. He said: watch look and weigh almost like the real one!

I smiled and replied: Same Same, but different.

Great idea! I was hesitant to try as I fear they might gell up. I'll certainly give it a shot next time.

Mixes perfectly, get some of those 50ml PE bottles with the needle dispensers and you're good to go!  You can even tell which one is which by the yellow/blue color difference each has.

I was doing the 13C reel along with some of his Shimano's at the same time. The right side internal body was exactly the same.

Just got one of these in - never done one before.

But, the main problem: The LH side-plate seems firmly anchored at the front end.

Watching the YouTube video and the guy throws the switch and it pops off easy as.

Now this one is in pretty poor shape with lots of corrosion so maybe something is welded tight at the front end?

Any clues guys?

Yep, sure was.

There is a spring loaded metal tube that acts as a receptacle for the side-plate pivot rod - a bit of an over engineered feature and one that is vulnerable to chemical assault.

Normally the spring would eject the post separating the side plate from the frame.

Trouble is that this reel had been dunked and left to sit for a long time and all the above parts were now chemically welded together as one so there was no separating that side-plate except by mechanical breakage.

Unfortunately, with a fair bit of sand inside, the overall condition of the reel was so poor that there comes a price point where money is better spent on a new reel.
