Title: Custom Scotch and Scotch Glass Case
Post by: mmayo on August 30, 2016, 11:14:37 PM
Wayne Deutscher asked me to build a wooden briefcase to hold six very special scotch glasses and a bottle of fine scotch. I make a lot of boxes, but this one was a bit tough with the internal divisions. I am happy to report that Wayne has it and everything fits. He now has a very custom, portable bar made of African mahagony.

Cheers!

BINGO  Bryan!!!!

Ready for Morro Bay again????  I am.

I'll post my photos this weekend, need to get this week wrapped up first.

And thorhammer, I'm with you Buddy Boy, to me Scotch tastes like turpentine, but when my two sons want to enjoy a

"wee dram of the angels breathe..." with their dear o'Dad,   I'm in.

Yet again...work of wood art.

To relate, my late grandfather use to carry a plastic case EVERYWHERE he went...in this case was a bottle of Sweet Vermouth, a bottle of Bourbon (usually Jim Beam), a small glass of Cherries, and 2 Manhattan glasses.  To this day I think of him when we drink Manhattans.  He would have loved to see these pictures.

Wayne , Dude!
There are Scotchs that do not taste like something you clean a reel with.
Call me a heretic but the craft blends are much more enjoyable...
Beautiful work Mark.
Best ,

I hope you kept the cut sheet for that box!  You might have stumbled into a whole new market.

It fits a bottle of Jim Beam Black quite nicely. I'm pretty sure it isn't there now though, it was looking a little, uh, empty when I last saw it!

Yes, Mark sized the box for both of my son's favorite scotch:

Laphroaig & Glenfiddich

It won't fit a MacCallen 12, but that is special enough to hand carry!!!!

BUTT, after this last weekend with THAT Motley Crew,

Mark will have to make a box to carry "A HANDLE" (1.75 L size)!!!! ;D

Alright ALL Ready

Several of you asked many questions about Mark Mayo's custom scotch box and I thought a few photos will say more than I can about his quality workmanship.

Here we go...

When I first contact Mark, he was not clear on how to make this work, so I sent him a few photos of what I was thinking of.

I sent him one glass for his precise measurements.  Then he prepared a schmetic drawing of his project.

I said it looks good from here, please get started.

And to quote my dear old Dad, "Measure TWICE, CUT ONCE!!!"

Then began the assembling and gluing process.

Man, who has this many clamps in their garage????  Its starting to look like a small nuclear power plant!!!!

It is coming together!

Mark used very high end Stainless Steel hardware - NICE!

Case is done, and Mark give me several stain choices, I went with a deep and dark stain.

DONE and ready for use!!!!

Mark made me a name plate, but used my college nickname!   YES, you can ask me why this name!!!!

And here is being put to use, on the left is my oldest son, who lives in Astoria, NY, then my lifelong buddy, Jerry, I've known him since age 4 when we moved into the neighborhood, Me and on the right is my youngest son, at his wedding rehearsal party about a year ago.

The man does excellent work, and is very open for a phone call for any custom work as I did here.

I have another project completed by Mark, will post that one later!!!!

You can't be too rich, too thin or have too many clamps!

I agree Mark, they're usually not enough.

Wayne, I really like the stain you chose for that beautiful piece, it really makes it...enjoy it!

A new case is on the way.  This one holds a whiskey decanter, four very custom glasses and has a cigar humidor!  Photos soon...

I had bigger plans, but Mark is limited in the size of the case!

Now that I think about it, it would take a very big box.  Nuff said.  Dominick
