PLEASE NOTE:
1. I noticed that there are some small spots of color irregularity on the sides of some of the spools. I do not think that anyone is going to have a problem with them, but since I am selling brand new kits, it is reasonable to expect perfection, and I do not want anyone to be disappointed so I am posting a photo of one of an example below. They will not show when the reels are loaded with line, and have no functional impact, but I would guess that some of these kits will become "shelf queens", so please take a look at the photo if this is the case. The frames all appear to be perfect. If anyone is unhappy with their kits, they can return them for a full refund, and I will pay for the return shipping from anywhere in the USA. I think that it is unlikely that anyone will care, but I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows. Please take a look at the last photo below before you order.
2. If you plan to use the rod clamp, the maximum rod diameter is 1 1/4". This is 1/8" wider than provided with the Tiburon Narrow Newell 533 kit.
3. Since very few people (no one that I know) uses a harness for the types of fishing for which the YoYo kit was designed, these kits do not have slots for the harness lugs, as you can see in the photo below, and are meant to be used without a harness. Please use the rail instead.

I just picked up 20 units of a special kit that Tiburon made for the Penn 349H and 349HC for me, the YoYo Special. The Alantani Ohana has been very good to me over the years, so I am offering these kits for sale here exclusively today. If any one wants a kit, please PM me your PayPal email address and I will send you a PayPal invoice. The kits are $225 PayPal plus shipping. They are too heavy to ship First Class. I will ship by Priority Mail with tracking at the actual cost of postage, which will be $7 in California, ranging up to $11 for Hawaii, Alaska and the East Coast.
This kit is the same width as the standard Penn model, which is the same width as the 501 Jigmaster Jr., the 146 Squidder Jr., and the 1/0 Senator. The diameter is approximately the same size as the 6/0 Senator
The Tiburon spool, machined from a solid block of aluminum, is easily strong enough to fish 80lb. line, and should hold approximately 500 yards of 80 lb. braid. As you can see in the photos, the spool has been lightened and weighs 6.4 ounces, which is half the weight of the 12.7 ounce stock Penn spool.
This is the ultimate yo-yo reel for big yellowtail, with larger drag washers than the 9/0 Senator. With the large diameter spool and 3.25:1 gear ratio, one crank of the handle recovers almost three feet (33") of line, giving you the lure speed which is often what it takes to trigger a strike.
I will post more information about the 349H and the Tiburon YoYo Special kit later, but I have to get to the Post Office before it closes right now.
This may be the only run that is ever produced of these kits, so if you want one, you might want to jump on it now.

The frame also fits the Penn 49, et al. but the spool does not. I also have three black extra 349H Tiburon aluminum spools and can sell them separately if anyone wants one. They are a bit pricey at $115 plus shipping, but as you can see, they are machined out of a solid block of aluminum and are a work of art.

Steve, Newell made an aluminum spool, and the 501 bars fit the 349H, but I do not believe that Newell ever made a base for the 349H. Newell, Accurate and Tiburon made the 2 7/16" wide Wahoo Specials for the 349H, but I am fairly certain that this is the first frame/spool kit for the 349H.

Yes it is they did not change the plates just the gears and the yoke. All the 49 versions should fit.

I have a few of 15-49 and 349 mkII dogs now but will have more cut. I might have to cut some more 5 washer set metal washers too, I have 349 but am out of 349H, Dawn should still have some sets still.

Yes it could be a 349H, I have never seen a 349 marked 349H. Take the handle, drag star and spacer off and look at the drag washers, if the ears of the top eared washer are wider than the hole in the side plate you have a 349H, if smaller it is a 349. The gears, yoke and drag stack are the only differance between the 349 and 349H.
Chris if you need any parts let us know before Randy ships the kit.Getting parts in the UK might be a problem.

Thanks Mike. My intended donor reel is in pretty good shape. The side plates are good/very good and the internals have been well greased and little used.
I think the reel may have been to darn heavy for the previous owner(s) ;D
Yup - just checked you are quite correct Lee. The eared washer won't fit through the hole. I may cut 2 small grooves in the side plate to allow servicing of the drags without removing the side plate. I also noticed that the grooves, in the main gear, for the eared washer do not got to the bottom. Is it worth drilling them down to the bottom for fitting a 5 stack.
Lee do you have any of the 5 stack metal washers for the 349H? I'm ok with the cf but accurately cutting stainless is a bit beyond me :(
I'm think I'm going to need another dog/and spring as well.

I am sure I am out of the H washers but I will check. Smooth Drag should still have some if not. I have a few springs if you need 1.
I use 1 thicker CF and 1 .045 keyed metal washer on the bottom of my 349 drag stacks and the first eared washer usualy does not bottom out in the grooves. I have 1 349H gear that takes a second thick CF washer between the first keyed and first eared washer to clear.

I am not that much into hot rodding reels as many of you but that sure is a beautiful upgrade. If I had a 349 and a use for it, I would probably sell my truck , house or wife (JK) ;D to get that.

Steve, the blue goes beautifully with both the maroon and black. Here are a couple of photos of a complete reel with dark maroon plates (sorry for the poor photo quality). It looks even better with the brighter red plates.

Here are some pictures of my 349h and 49L. Along with my 349hc Nep-Tuna cradle. Missing is my 349h Wahoo special. I still need to put it together. Thanks for the spool Randy now I can finish it. The 49L already has a aluminum spool. I added a steel gear soon to be stainless. A stainless gear sleeve and stainless yoke with carbon fiber washers.

Please excuse me for asking, but what exactly is a yo yo ?? I live a sheltered life here in the NW and around my neck of the woods it's how we refer to coho salmon.

It's a style of jigging where you use a heavy jig and run it to the bottom and reel it up at a fast rate of speed. This is what I understand from what I have read. The rod is around 7 feet long with a fast taper in the 40-50lb line range. A reel with high gears and tall spool like the 349 and also the 49 is used.

I could not decide, black or maroon so I used a set of verry dark maroon sideplates. The reel has a SS 113H gearsleeve, 5+1 drag stack and one of my 349MKII AR dogs. I also put NEW outer rings and bearings on it. Putting line on it today then off to test it on inshore halibut in September.

Without the heavy bronze spool the reel is much lighter with the kit than it was before but a bit heavier than my working reels w/aluminum spools and 505 crossbars. It might be me but I think the reel freespools better with the 1 piece frame and I realy like the lack of a top crossbar.
I have a bunch of low speed 349 5 metal washer sets if anyone is building a 349 with these.
Lee I need a 2 of the mark 2 dogs and a dog for my 49L. I will build a 349 as soon as I can find outer rings. So I will need the drag washers also. Do you need any parts. I have gears for both reels, left side bearings and a few right side.

Lee - you said you fitted new bearings - is that as in ball bearings or replacement screw in bushes :)
NOS Penn 349 bearings.
All we need now is custom side plates to make everthing complete.

This is a fresh change from the jigmaster and 4.0 stuff that saturated the internet. Ebay is flooded with them. Well the 349h frame kits are limited and that will make them more desirable. There is allot of cheap doner reels for parts if you don't own a reel to upgrade.

While waiting for stuff to arrive I decided to try a couple of mods.
Mod 1 - filed two small notches in the right hand side plate to allow the eared drag washers to pass in and out - 1st photo.
Mod 2 - Cut a 32mm (1.25) washer out of .25mm (0.010") thick Teflon. This fits nicely under the sleeve. It helps reduce friction/wear - maybe :-\ Photos 2 and 3.
This was in addition to the now standard practice of delrin under gear and top of stack washers.
Building the drag stack - problems.
The grooves (for eared washers) in the main gear are nowhere near deep enough.
I had to use one of the original thick brass washers on top of 2 carbon fibre washers to get the eared washer to fit without bottoming out.
Then I found that the top eared washer (Keta 5 stack) wouldn't fit in the grooves.
So I cut 2 thin 0.5mm (0.020") cf washers to replace the standard ones - now the eared washer fits :)
The whole drag assembly was tested dry - and is working fine.
Thanks to Lee it now has a stainless dog and new spring :)
I do not like to modify unreplaceable parts, even like making the groove in the main gear deeper and here is what I do.
Thicker botom CF washer (.040" I think), .045" keyed washer, thicker CF washer,.035" eared washer then .035" CF and either .035 or .045 metal washers to finish the stack. I have had to bend the ears on the bottom eared washer a few times, and cut some with longer ears but it was a PIA fitting them with 1-1/2 good hands. It is nice to have drag washers of varing thicknesses when adjusting a drag stack.
Lee - your combination wouldn't have worked on my maingear.
I had to use 2 .040" carbontex, 1 original brass .060", 1 .040" carbontex then the stainless eared washer - and it still only just worked.
The original lower washers totalled .25" thickness :o
If I could have found a way to increase the depth of the grooves it would have been a more elegant solution.
Some people can do a good job with a Dremel, I can't. The best way involves a mill.
I cannot see what the problem is all my gears fit Dawns washer kits. No grinding needed or thicker washer. At the bottom a fiber graphite washer then a non eared metal washer, then another graphite washer, then a eared metal washer, and repeat the process again. Do i need to send you a gear set ?

The problem is not the gear but the sleeve. Are you using the smooth drag kit that Dawn sells. If so you need Alans gear sleeve to make it work. Well I have a sleeve that I milled the sides off of. It is the ten tooth gear. I will send you a bridge with new gears and install the sleeve. But I need to get a stainless dog from Lee first to complete the setup. So hang on I'm working seven days a week until october it will take a few weeks to get things together.

Mike - I have the stainless dog from Lee - It is not a sleeve problem - It's the main gear - the grooves are not deep enough - they are designed for the original THICK washers.
If you have a deep groove main gear for a 349H I'll have it - Yeah! :) Allowing for shipping etc ;)
The stock sleeve will not allow the metal washer to go low enough to touch the carbon washer. I will send everthing to make sure it works. It will be together so no problems.

Mike - the sleeve is not the problem - the 1st keyed washer sits on the cf without problems - it is the grooves in the main gear - have a look at the photo.

Lee - I was very surprised when I opened her up. I guess it was cut to fit the original ultra thick washers :-\

Here is what I am sending you Chris. A new main and pinion gear. A new modified ten tooth sleeve and new bridge also Dawns drag set. The rest is used I had laying around. This way you can go at it without problems.

Chris the sleeve that I put on the bridge I sent you is a 10 tooth that I modified by machining the sides like Alans sleeves. The sleeve is hard it was difficult to mill with a Hss mill cutter. It should give you less backlash than Alans 8 tooth sleeve. I had to press in the pin so it will be impossible to remove without drilling. I greased it and it should be good for a long time. The sleeve will fit all drag washer kits out there.

My 349s are Pacific halibut reels and I spool them with either 50# or 60# (JB calls their 60 pound solid 65 pound to cut down confusion with 60# hollow) and I usualy use JB solid.
Well I think I am going to stick with the JB hollow braid. I have everthing to splice it. The needles are not cheap so I need to make use of all the hardware i bought.

The USPS tracking just indicates it's arrived with the local carrier - Royal Mail. It arrived at the local PO depot - looks like I've been hit with customs tax :( I'm waiting to be notified what the payment is - what did you put on the shipping label?

Since Randy is down to one spool and frame kit I can let you know I bought 15 kits myself with Randy. I plan on building up some of the kits for myself. Also build complete reels with new parts with upgrades to sell. It was the only way to get these kits for myself. Randy couldn't justify the cost of 35 kits he may not sell. But for me I'm not in the reel business so I can take the time to finish the kits. So I offset the cost and we made it happen. If you snooze you lose so I kept at it until Randy knew I was serious. Sorry for being such a pain Randy.

Am I right, there are 2 different size gears? Are the drags the same size, and the exterior gear pitch is different? In other words, different speeds?
Or are the gears completely different like 113 /113H?
I looked in my parts table, but it was printed after the gears went unlisted /unavailable.
The 349 is a lower gear ratio then the 349H & 349HC. Drags are different & gears are different too. Plates & spools are the same for all. Rudy
The only difference between the plates is that the crankside 349HC has an extra hole for the drag disengage lever The 349 and 349H only have a single hole for the freespool lever.
I finished a 349 the other day with a yoyo frame. Then sent off my Nep-tuna 349hc to finish it with a rod and roller guides. I running out of 349s and 49s to build. So Randy sold me this to build a super rare 349H LH.

Hello are these frame and spool kits still available? I recently purchased a mint condition penn 349 reel on ebay then noticed these interesting kits. Also wondering if the reel i bought is the same as a 349h or hc since it has two levers one for drag and the other? thanks.

If it has two levers it is an HC. One is the free spool lever and the other disengages the anti-reverse.
