Morro Bay Landing has a 10 and 12 hour trips going on Sunday April 1st which is opening day for lingcod and rockfish and I was wondering if anyone was thinking of fishing....
My birthday is a few days later but I was thinking of giving myself a early birthday gift.......I'm not fully committed yet but just wanted to see if there is any interest....

I can sure make every effort to join in, I'd have to take Monday off as well. Tried that fishing and driving back to San Jose on the same day before. Didn't like it one bit. Won't every try it again.

I might be able to convince someone at work to change their schedule ? I would be late night or we hours in the morning Saturday/Sunday ? I did just bring about 10lbs.of rock cod fillets for the guys yesterday.

i just signed up for the 12 hour on the endeavor. there are now 32 spots open!!!!! the cauycos house has enough beds to sleep 7, plus two lounge chairs and floor space for air mattresses. you will need to bring sleeping bags and towels. the house will be available from friday to monday. i've reserved two beds for me and ed. let me know who else is in!

bring sleeping bags, air mattresses, and towels. that way we don't have to do laundry the morning of departure. after that, it's just normal junk for meals.

Just talked it over with Alan and Randy and I'm gonna make the long drive from Phoenix. I'm new to this whole rock fish/ling thing so for this trip I'll be taking on the role of the new guy with hundreds of questions...
So for my first question, what do you guys like for lead heads?
I ask because I cast my own lead weights and I would like to bring some lead heads to give out to you guys. I checked some prices and I found 6 to 10 oz jigs going for 10-15 buck each. That's really expensive to me. I think free is better, so I wanna contribute some to the group. But since I have no experience with this yet, I'm not sure of the sizes or preferred shape. So give me some input... these are the two basic shapes I found. Group majority decides, then we can pick sizes since the molds are multi cavity and we can have a range of sizes.

Thank you for the offer of free jig heads, it's greatly appreciated. I think the two types of jig heads you posted are the most popular styles so bring a variety of both. Add far as weight goes I personally use 6,8 or 10oz since we are allowed to fish up to 300ft deep.
I'm looking forward to this trip, it's gonna be fun!
either shape is fine. the fish won't care at all. heavier is probably better, though. i'll likely be fishing with 1 pound cannon ball weights on a slider with a single leader and a double hook. you are limited to two hooks. treble hooks count as one.

I didn't clarify my earlier post very well, I don't own any jig molds in these large sizes. I am going to buy one to go with the rest of my lead molding gear. But I'm not sure which one to buy, so I was asking for a little advice on shape and weights. Do you go over 10oz, like a 12 or 16? I'm liking the look of the shad head and I can get it in a 6, 8, 10 and 12 oz mold, so I can cast all 4 sizes. Biggest hook size the mold will take is 10/0. What do you think?
I personally like the shad style jig heads.
As far as weight goes I mostly use 6oz and 8oz but as Alan said a lot of people will use up to 16-18oz on their shrimp fly rigs.
one pound for deep water and/or windy days. 4 ounces for shallow water and flat calm! ;D

Welcome to the show! Like previous posts 6,8 & 10oz. will work for most of what we are doing. 1lb. for deep watter drop with bait. Alan will tell you WHOLE SQUID...I say HEX BAR & jigs only, but what do I know? I keep winning the Golden Carp Award (except for last year..Steve). As far as being a beginner, don't worry even I figured it out ;D

I just about got my gear all packed up, irons, soft baits, flies, bare hooks. Need to build my green and silver T4N1, I responded the magnum after having loaded it with braid, went fishing and watched the braid slide around on the spool cuz I forgot to tape it. So I got that straightened out amd I got a Daiwa linecounter and the T4N1. Then just throw a go bag together. And convince the wife not to leave me while I'm gone fishing!

Tsunami really has put in alot of effort in their products & the Forged 10 looks great. I will use it next week at the Channel Islands, then April 1 in Morro Bay, then maybe send it home with Alan for a proper review.

Hooks came in today, I got the mold a couple days ago, but not enough time to make jig heads tonite.
So I made shrimp flies instead... 8/0 mustad. 60lb leader check that I could still fit the mono thru the eye!

I don't fish shrimp flies but I always prefer a darker color jig..... Black, purple, dark red, motor oil etc.... Or bright pink!

Alan do you have room on the fooor for one more person. Also i decided to make snack sticks again. A jamaican jerk and a cuban longanisa flavor. Both are taken from a sausage recipe and adaped to a snack stick recipe.
