WEEHOO!  You have no idea what it means to this city.

I want to see a commemorative Penn Greenie!

ok, so the last time this happened was, well, ok, like never.  yeah, never.  never, ever before!  your eagles won the superbowl!  congratulations!  how long would it take you to crank out a commemorative reel?  i could easily see a thousand reels, limited edition, each with a serial number.  decker would certainly take number 1 since it was his idea, sal would take number 2 in a heartbeat, i'd like number three because my favorite team after the raiders and niners is anybody playing the patriots, plus i'd like to throw in a little seniority.  the next 500 reels could sell here in a heartbeat.  and what self-respecting shop in pennsylvania wouldn't take at least a dozen.

guys?  c'mon!  you won!  how can you pass this up?????   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Would they have a commemorative decal or maybe a emblem, or what?

They are very sensitive about that, might need to be a different looking Eagle, unless they give us the ok. Been there before with the Phillies, I used one of their picture to send a message to a friend, they spotted it within seconds and cleared it with a warning.

I think as long as it doesn't say Philadelphia Eagles and just has a nice eagle on say an all green or green and silver combo.  We would be ok.

Alan and Tony, thanks so much for taking up the cause!!   It's really beyond my dreams.

Even if it were not possible to produce a reel...  Maybe some side-plates?  Generic eagle or not, there are probably enough fishermen in NJ/PA/DE to create a sufficient demand.

Thanks again!  I would do anything I could to help promote it.

Interesting from Wikipedia:  "In February 1933, the first Penn Reels were sold to the Miller Auto Supply Company in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania."

And about the Eagles:  "The franchise was established in 1933 as a replacement for the bankrupt Frankford Yellow Jackets, when a group led by Bert Bell secured the rights to an NFL franchise in Philadelphia. "

I'll chime in since I can't keep my mouth in check this time. I would think that if Penn asks the Eagles permission for the rights to there logo they would be willing to grant permission to Penn for this honer as a well known reel manufacture as they are.

What do you say Tony? Also what do you suggest that Penn builds for this commemorative Reel. A senator? Or another conventional sized reel?

I guess it wouldn't happen without a big fee paid to the Eagles and NFL.

My first thought is that the market is too narrow for this —

We are a small group in reality — and there are a lot of Sports Teams out there who get a major portion of their income from logo-sharing licensing agreements that are protected by trademark infrigement laws.  And they enforce them ruthlessly.

Tip #1: This is BIG business. The big source of revenue for the NFL and other big leagues is the licensed merchandise, even bigger than ticket sales. They do not want to share that revenue. They want big companies paying them millions to use those logos, often granting exclusive positions to such companies in return for huge piles of money. Part of the reason big companies pay them is that the NFL does not let people steal their logos, the NFL sues people that try that, and that would include suing you if you try this.

Tip#2: The NFL is watching. [So is the NBA, NHL, MLB, and NCAA.] At most NFL events there are NFL investigators lurking around trying to catch offenders selling fake NFL merchandise. The NFL often goes to the local court and gets what Is called an "Ex Parte Seizure" order from the court authorizing the police to confiscate any suspected counterfeit goods discovered in or around the site of the event. So if you go near an NFL stadium on game day and try to sell fake NFL merchandise, you are likely to get a visit from the police, who will confiscate everything you have as "evidence" of your infringement. If you try selling the stuff on eBay, guess who will be watching. An NFL investigator may be your first customer, buying evidence to use to bankrupt you.

Likely no chance that the Philly Eagle Franchise would allow this — since they would be setting a precedent that would make it difficult to enforce their agreements with other organizations and businesses.

Perhaps another angle would be to produce sideplates engraved with a name that means something to us —

Such as Alan Tani Special, or Sal's "The Works", or Broadway's Ride, or Ted's Custom, or Lou's Gems.

Design and trademark our own logo.

Can be for conventionals or spinners.

It could work as suggested — but oftentimes we let our emotions and personal desires run ahead of the pack of possibilities.

Just some thoughts and opinions.

Best,

Fred

Well since Penn is a PA business that would be a + on there behalf I would think. But I could be barking up the wrong tree. Remember this is a first!

There you have it.

Every male in my family has said that for years ;D  I remember we used to call them the "Eggles."   But the other day I saw a retro Ron Jaworski jersey in a store, and at that moment all the failings of the past were forgiven for me.

If it is not commercially possible to produce such a reel, then producing a custom one to order is the other way to go, not that I have the money or the craftsmanship to undertake that.   Still, if I see one at the Jersey shore or on this site, it will warm my heart.

I'm a seahawks fan, but I'll take 2 just because I love Penn reels and no doubt this will be one worth owning !!

Congrats to the Eagles and Eagles fans. From start to finish there has never been a team like the 2017 Eagles, and hope they continue the hot streak.

What reel would it be? I think a regular width US Senator 113H would be the obvious choice.

You know, changing just one feather on that Eagle and the letters in a slight different shape there shouldn't be anything they could do about it.

Tony, are we on? you could easily make 10,000 units with maybe just 100 numbered.
You've already offered the 704 & 706, you know how well that went, It is now good timing for the 707 .

What do you say?

Sal,

I am so low on the totem poll I can't see the top lol.  I passed this thread on to the appropriate people, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

If Penn can't do it, could we put together a custom run of senator frames?

I remember being in Philly sometime in the mid  80's and seeing a bumper sticker that read,

Why don't they bring a professional football team to Philadelphia?
