Nice work Sal, your dremel work on the plates is getting harder to pick from the factory molding.

Great stuff Sal. Youll have to do a mini video of how to dremel the side plate.

Sal, I know how you were torn about upgrading a nice 16/0.  I have one in primo condition that will remain stock.  Dominick

Thanks guys, especially you Mike, you could appreciate hand work a little more.

Yup Dominick, I was having such a hard time with it that I told the owner to buy  a 14/0 plate to send it over to me... and he did ;D
(https://i.imgur.com/ed9uqq4.jpg)
He was happy that I recommended a 14/0 plate to save the very hard to find 16/0.
With that said, it is still a 16/0, but Benni has the matching numbers on his :)

Ok, back on the assembly of the 16/0 Shark Tank#2
bridge and dogs go in
(https://i.imgur.com/1enMvAe.jpg)
drag insert next
(https://i.imgur.com/SGjTPV9.jpg)
you should end up with two custom metal keyed washers on top and the stock belleville washer
(https://i.imgur.com/qHcmZU9.jpg)
shield next
(https://i.imgur.com/pdXgFfd.jpg)
installing the large delrin washer right under the star will make it possible to move the star with one finger while up to 50lbs...no joke, try it!

and this one will be heading out to battle very soon.

McMaster-Carr, I used to buy sheets from them and punch my own, but haven't in a while. let me check the drawer, if I see one I'll send it over.

Hi Sal, thanks for showing the 16/0, good photos, my largest reel is a 14/0, has a good free spool like the spool is well balanced, just wants to keep rolling around, I love it, thanks again Sal, cheers Don.

That kit is a beast.  I havent seen the insert kit tested to its full potential, and I generally warn against people trying.  But one person tried anyways. (http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=24200.0)

The 10/0 and up all uses the same drag stack, but the inserts themselves are different to accommodate the different size gears.

She's a beauty!

Sal,
What is the consensus on the newer brass main gears on these big boy senators, are people experiencing failures of the brass and upgrading to the steel mains? I've read many a times here on AT that the smaller penn  reel brass mains sheer under higher drag numbers, does this translate over to these big senators 9/0 and up senators as well?

Always enjoy your posts!

Not sure Trevor.
I have seen brass gears fail at high drag setting on smaller reels, but  haven't seen any on these 16/0 gears yet.
Comparing the steel gears to the brass, the steel are much stronger.
So, if I was building one of these Shark reels for myself, I would probably go with the steel gears.
