Noticed this today, it's not corrosion, at first it looks like varnish but it's actually the chrome that's changing color. I was able to buff it out somewhat but it as a gold color look to it. Bad batch of rings?

Maybe that change in color had something to do with the varnish you used. ?
Are you sure it's not chrome worn through exposing brass?

The reel is in mint condition except for that spot and I didn't use any varnish on it
