Title: Okuma CT-205da auto trip mechanism
Post by: retiredandfishing on October 20, 2018, 07:06:06 PM
Hello.  Ran into a reel I hadn't worked on yet.  It's the Okuma CT-205da.  Took it apart because the auto trip wasn't working.  Found that on the clutch cam the screw hole to hold the clutch slider on had part of the lip broken off, which isn't a big deal.  It's what i did not find that I need help on.

According to the schematics the auto trip mechanism has a compression spring on it.  Trouble is it was missing when I took the reel apart.  Consequently I don't know how it fits back into the mechanism.

Anyone have a picture of a  this models auto trip mechanism or similar auto trip mechanism by Okuma that shows how the compression spring mounts?

This reel is being used by a commercial salmon fisherman.  He likes the feature because he can operate it one handed so disabling the feature is not an option.

Any help you can be would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Well and update on this.  Okuma has not responded and I am thinking not too many others have this reel, hence no responses.  So I got the clutch slider and spring in the mail.  Put the new clutch slider in and the reel works fine without the spring, so calling it good.  Wondering if maybe the spring was an added feature later on and this reel is an older model.  Seems to function fine, although I see the clutch slider is built stronger at the screw hole than the old one I took out.

The spring just functions as a damper on the auto trip mechanism, I usually remove the auto trip to extend main gear life.

This is quite late in getting back, sorry.  Your post helped.  I was able to figure it out.  Ordered  the spring and put it back in fine.  Found that the auto trip works with either the spring in or out.  These reels belong to a commercial fisherman who likes the auto trip feature.
