Title: Unmarked Oldie ID??
Post by: Cuttyhunker on December 05, 2018, 04:45:45 PM
Out of my six gallon milk crate comes this mystery, to me, old reel.  It is unmarked except for the molders mark on the inside of the tail plate, a stylized RS in a circle, too small to photograph but sketched.  The clicker ring is round not flat wire, and the button is a flat top Hersey kiss.  A True temper handle fits on the square bridge post. Only 5 bolts per side for a 4 post reel with 3 in the stand that also incorporates 2 of the posts.  My guess is an old Ocean City, can anyone shed some light on this old timer?
Thanks
Bob

I think your guess is correct. Ocean City. The stand wraps around the reel further than most. I have a 112 OC that has a stand like that.

The stand struck me as clever manufacturing.  How do you make a reel with a 3 screw stand and 4 posts using 5 only bolts a side?  I have an Abbey Seabright trade reel made by H&I in Utica with only 3 bolts securing the 3 posts, one side of the posts are threaded becoming bolts themselves screwing into the head plate

Just looked over the 112 OC and others and now think the square post sizing that accepts an old True Temper handle may just be coincidental.  A few design things seem to be not OC, the bridge design uses springs that are at a right angle, not parallel to the spool shaft.  Lack of marking except for the stylized RS inside the tail seem to shout trade reel.  Any ideas on who's design the odd bridge functioning is?
