Did anyone else has ever had problems fitting the correct screwdriver tip in these tiny screws, or am I the only one?

A reel made in USA and my 4-5 dozen screwdriver tips made in USA didn't work :-\.
I had to make my own by grinding the tip.
Sal
i have one that works fine but is "custom" as well..... :-\
I have a screwdriver I got at Home Depot. It is a convertible that has three bits in the handle. These bits are all tiny and have a flat head on one end and a Phillips on the other. The smallest Phillips is actually too small for the Avet handle knob screws,
No. Only one screwdriver for a sample size, and it worked. Kinda a complicated arrangement for the knob, eh? I removed 1 of the shims to get mine up to par.
No problem with the screws but getting the correct socket to fit the nut and fit into the hole. I have the right one and put it away by itself.

Any suggestions?

Thanks guys! I thought it was strange, those are definitely not machined for US tools.
This isn't the first knob I removed and a small Phillips head has always worked with no issues.
It is a great reel, but they should do better on those.
Sal
Keith and Brett, I have not had a problem with the nut.
The first attempt it came off my mag but holder, the second time I rested the nut on top and the bit holder did the job.
Looks as the 1/4" bit holder is perfect for this situation, it fits to perfection.
I have a more pointed #2 Philips that I use.
Now that the handle is apart...what is the correct sequence of washers that go back together? One of the washer has an "oblong" opening in it?

The washers go back as I'm showing them on the pic above.
The thinner ( 3 ) washers are shims, you might find the same or you might find less or more...it wouldn't matter.
Those go in first, next would be the keyed washer and then the lock washer.
My reason for removing the knob is that a member requested a larger knob for these nice reels.

I usually wouldn't get involved in some like this, but he's a good guy and couldn't say no.
I'm waiting on a blade and I'm hoping it will work. I do not want to destroy the stock handle if I don't have to
Sal
Oh man I'm hoping for success on this one ;D ;D ;D
Well, I just received the blade and it fits to perfection. This is not an Avet part, but the machining is perfect, everything lines up:

Of course the reel would have worked just fine as it was, but it should be a little better now:

That looks incredible, and the knob goes so well with the silver reel, great job, Sal!!!
Signed one happy Raptor owner ;D ;D ;D
I thought Accurate uses #6 torx screws.
I'm not sure Mark.
The 2 Philips head screws on the handle nut were standard, the 2 mentioned above on the knob were not.
I used many screwdriver tips, none worked. I'm not sure why they would have two different screw heads on the same reel, maybe the handle came from somewhere else :-\.
The good part, it worked out.
Sal
Did they use JIS head screws perchance?
That would make sense, but I don't have one of those screwdrivers to test.
Sal
The screwdriver I use on my Avets came from Klein Tools. It was part of a set of small screwdrivers from Klein.
man, that is a great looking handle setup! Are there any more available like that? I just bought an hxj raptor to go on a custom grouper rod and a handle and blade like that would really complete the package.
And it took me a lot of searching to find my first avet knob philips bit.I can't remember now from whence it came , but I painted it bright orange so I can always locate it easily in my tool tray
Late? Yes I know, sorry. The Klein Phillips head that fits the screws to remove cap on the handle is a #0. Is it a perfect fit? Nope. There is some slop and I guess the screws Avet used are JIS. Not having any JIS drivers this is just a guess. The #1 is way to big and the #0 like I said is a bit sloppy.
I have used the #0 to remove several handle caps for the knobs on Avets, you just to have to be careful not to damage the screw when taking it out for the first time. I'm not sure but it seems like there is a type of thread lock or the plastic or rubber just grabs those screws tight. Every cap screw I have removed has something black on those screw threads.
Anyway here is a pic of the Klein driver I use and like stated it is included in a mini driver set. I thought I had one Klein driver that was in between the #0 and #1 but I can't locate it now and it is way too late to dig through all of my stuff. Also if Klein did make one in the past they sure don't make it now.

Good information is always appreciated , even if a little late.
Thanks Mark!

I don't make these for a living, I just like to help out when I can.
I usually make the shaft and knobs. It is a lot of work, but don't really charge for my time.
If interested send me a PM and I'll see what I could do.
I'm trying to keep the cost down as much as I cam , there are a few components to purchase to make a custom knob.
SS tube
SS rod ( both need to be machined on my lathe and tapped for the screws)
SS screws and washers, if you like the oil port , you will need it as well, along with the screws... your choice.
A acrylic blank, about 1.5" x 1.5", a good section gets wasted as I shape the handle.
Lots of work buffing and drilling afterwards and at times it fails and need to start all over, but I have lots of patience.
My price for the custom knob is $60.
I'm not sure I could find another arm, I probably could, but will need to check.
Te cost of the arm and the shipping is not included, the installation would be, if you needed me to install it for you.
Sorry for the long reply, I wanted to point out the involvement it takes on these.
There are others that make them if you look online, but I'm not sure what they charge.
As I find easier way as I move along the cost would be adjusted, maybe I could bring it down a little in the future, but I'm noticing a little increase on the blanks from the time I started, about 2 years ago 😏
All my best,
Sal
That replacement handle look great Sal, I would be in for some if the postage to Australia, was not so costly. cheers Don.
