But still with at least 2 new variants and reportedly more contagious and prevalent in other areas safeguards are still wise me thinks.

I know everything is relative but those "small fish" are actually very nice size fish that most of us would be happy to catch anytime. Congratulations on a nice trip.  Scott

Reef donkeys!!!

What is the name of that species of Snapper Alan? I'm just curious as Pacific fish are very similar to some of our Atlantic species but slight variations. Anyway, that is a quality Snapper.

Yup, Covid 1984 and the fires last year caused them to put it off until this summer.  The venue they had rented was destroyed by one of the fires.

Killer, Boss! I was wondering about Mati the other day, what a super guy! Next I'm out, I owe him pastry; you, beer (lots); Wayne, booze, too. Which I will happily steal from Dominick. I might  owe him a paella- but no way I can match his, so he's just SOL.

With all due respect, that's Stripers On Line :)

Since Alan did not answer yet, and I am on a fish identifying tear today:   Pretty certain this is Lutjanus Peru,  common name in English is Pacific Red Snapper, in Baja they are called Huichinango,  which is sort of a generic term for red snapper.

Great table fare, and Thwt one is on the larger side.

Dave - I take it by the slang name "reef donkey" that they are bottom dwellers around structure, any info on how deep?  It doesn't look like it has any barotrauma...But I'm betting it's got some great fillets for grilling or tacos!!!!! - john

Huichinango  tend to be found in schools near bottom in not too deep water,  100 to maybe 300 feet.  But when the light and food source conditions are right, they can be right up near the surface.  I have even caught a few on the fly  at no deeper than 50 feet. Don't pull as hard as other snappers , but still pretty feisty.

They like to eat shrimp and pelagic  crabs  and are very tasty, especially when fresh.  More complex  flavor than other snappers.  Whole fish, butterflied and roasted with some tortillas and a nice  salsa cruda is living right.

I have a killer light tackle iron for them.
