South of Pigeon Point only. The weather should be just dandy, as far as Monterey Bay in early April goes. ;)
I can't wait. Dave and I are heading out of Santa Cruz bright and early on Long Hall. Dave scored a temp slip, so that is nice. 8) The boat is in the water!
Schade and his buds are going out of Moss Landing. It is going to be a zoo at the launch I am sure, so he is going to sleep on his boat in the parking lot. (https://ar15.com//images/smilies/smiley_bucktooth.gi)
The freezer is empty. Need some fresh kills to restock. I hope there are fish to be caught!
Who else is going?
Rob
Good luck guys....Tight Lines and Full Fish Holds....Bill
First day is always a shakedown, even though I went through all the systems in the past month or so or four? Something always gets left at home or doesn't work right. Hopefully we can get right back into the groove we ended last season on and get right to the fun stuff, hooking up.
Don't forget the net !! (Been there done that)
Boy, am I beat. Long day. Alarm at 4:30, just got home 9pm.
The long and short is 11 fish for 6 guys on two boats. One boat caught on bait trolling, the other only plastics got hit (hoochies).
Going to bed!
Nice job !! I'll have to smoke up the last of last years fish and think about getting out there .............. its to cold yet ..................... your April looks like the middle of our summer !!!
Cheers:
Todd
Wow we really had to work to get those fish amd I am still tired. Paid our dues to the fishing gods in the form of expensive gear dropped to the bottom. This year it was everything on the port downrigger, cannonball, release, snubber and spring stop. We covered the entire bay hunting and finally we found them, it was already after 1:00 and we spent the rest of the day working the area for one short of limits for three. Everyone went home with fish and the boat ran great so all in all it was a great day on the water.
And my share of the take was iced overnight, fileted, cut deboned, sliced up and buried in brown sugar and saltthen refrigerated. Will be smoked in a couple days.
I see some candy in your future !! You , Ted and I will have to have a smoke off !! I'm sure Pescador would be happy to judge !! Cheers:
Todd
Nice job guys. Stick and stay and make it pay. It was a long day but I'm guessing you have no regrets other than wishing you had Scotty downriggers with spectra ;D
Hope your good fishing continues
Thanks for the report, nice to get some fish, how long does your salmon season last up there, thanks cheers Don.

Don, we should know more later this month, they haven't decided on the close of the season for our area yet (not sooner than May 15), or if or when it will open north of here if at all. Our area (Monterey Bay south to Mexico) is usually open until about Halloween IIRC. The commercial season looks dismal, those guys may be screwed entirely.

In the picture of 5 fish, is the bottom one a king? Lots like a pink, albeit a big one, to me.
Great trip, long days and sleepless nites. Glad you found some fish to bite. :D
Funny thing is they closed our season again the day yours opened. Grrrr. >:(
Ours are wild stocks, Taste better if not adipose clipped. :-*
Thanks for your report. I love the pictures .
It did happen.

I don't think they get any Pink's that far South. Be cool if they did. What would Cal F&G say about that?

All Kings, that one just has had all its scales cleaned off.
I went yesterday. The store was out..!!
Yes all we have are King Salmon and the occasional Coho that are restricted to zero take. Here's the money shot.

awesome picture.
Dominick. We trolled awhile then ran awhile repeated a few times until we finally got on the hot spot, once we found it we zigzagged, circled, figure eighted for several hours of slow bit steady hard bites. We hooked five and landed five.
My favorite way is mooching them up from the bottom.
David, your smoked salmon looks delicious and priceless !!
Ted I'm following your lead, the last batch of tuna I canned up I add a little piece of the smoked salmon first. Does add a very nice flavor to the tuna. Just wish I could get Albacore back here, I'm having to use PV yellowfin as a substitute. Albacore is king when it comes to canning.

Thanks Joes, your looking after me, its nice to see what fish are being caught in your part of the world, and how long you can fish them for, Time is here to fish for the future, so you just have to run with it, good luck, cheers Don.
