Welcome BigBoar. The only upgrade for a US113W is an improved bridge from Tom at Cortez Conversions. The improved bridge is a must have for fighting hard pulling fish. Check out his web site for his products.        Rudy

Welcome BigBoar!  It's not all about folks here helping you spend money (yeah, that can happen!)  But you will always get first rate advice on what you need to do the things you want to do with the equipment you have.  Share with us and let us know about your fishing and your gear!  I am sure we will -johnlearn from you and you from us - it's what makes the Ohana...-john

Welcome BigBoar,
These guys will point  you in the right direction. For me, some of my best everyday upgrades have been with handle knobs....do all the upgrades you can, but I love a bigger, more comfortable knob to top it off!!! send some pics !

Thanks All. Do the Cortez conversion side plates work also?

I've been reading up for the past couple of hours. This forum seems to be way friendlier than BD.

No they are for the H YTS, H, & HLW Senator models. No side plates are available for the US model.....yet. You won't find a friendlier group anywhere. We are all one big Ohana. Rule #1, don't say anything that an 11 year old girl could read. Rule #2 remember you are a guest in the Bosses (Alan Tani) house. Rule #3, refer back to rules #1 &#2.   8)  ;D

 Welcome to the Ohana

Your US113 is a great reel until you hook into that "fish of a lifetime" and the dogs fail. Easy way to prevent that failure is to get yourself a Cortez conversions bridge/sleeve upgrade. It's a no brainer and worth every penny.

Thanks again all.

Curious as to what's the difference between the regular penn international vis vs visx?

Can't find much info online and the local shops can't tell me.

For one thing the VIS has a top crossbar & the VISX is topless. VIS sizes are 16 to 130. VISX sizes are 12 to 50. Ratios are different between them.       Rudy

Trevor, the VISX series has advanced drag curves designed to fish up line classes using braid- like 80 lb braid on a 16 reel. The VIS have more traditional drag numbers more reflective of line-class fishing- mainly trolling with mono. Even the VIS drag numbers are higher than the earlier gen Internationals, tho. For instance, Gen 1 and II 80's were rated at 37 lbs; a new 50VISW is rated at 45lbs, whereas the 50VISX is close to 60 I think.

Good to have you here.  As Rudy said before, a better bunch of folks you will never meet....for the US Senator a handle and bridge is all you need or can do to these tanks.....if you get the fever to hot rod a reel the 113H and the Jigmaster have plenty of options.....I recently completed an extra narrow JM with all the parts sourced here.....Bill, Southern Calif mountains.
