Title: Newell Parts???
Post by: Cortez_Conversions on September 13, 2012, 01:56:33 AM
So with Newell out of the picture for the immediate future, what replacement parts are going to be needed first?
I just dropped some handle nuts off at Alans place, whats next?

I think bearing caps and the threaded inserts that go on the top of the reel....holds the top screws. Those inserts always strip. 5:1 gears and pinions are a hot ticket always.

What I did find is that the little captive female standoff is available from McMaster Carr. It comes with a 4-40 thread and Newell uses a 5-40 thread. I just had to get the right tap and basically chase the threads, worked perfectly. From what i found they are the same for most 200 and 300 series Newells. I now have a couple dozen extra but for $ 10.00 plus change, i can live with it.

Buy the correct drill  for a 5-40 and you won't break as many taps.
A #39 drill should do the trick for you.
Good luck!
