smoothest drag

many moons ago Alan suggested a weight on your rod and reel should
descend at a rate of 1ft every5 seconds or more.
i use that as my guide,when i was young it was hold the line and
let the reel descend slowly without stuttering.thats fine also
today on rod and reel(750ss)and a 93.7gm  sinker it took 41minutes to fall 6 ft
similar results for overheads and a senator 113h 4/0
2lb mininum 38lb maximum drag(750ss)
so how did i do it.here,s how

delrin=0.80 replace c/f washer bottom of stack
keyed=0.98ss

i started at 1.45pm sinker level with the 1ft mark
braid straight to sinker and never touch till it had dropped 1ft to the 2ft mark

Very clever Wallace, but I think your hexed washer is octagonal.

Wallace, Two of your carbon fiber washers, the ones sandwiched between the two keyed washers on each side of the octagonal washers, will turn as one unit producing zero drag. A better stack would be delrin, keyed, carbon fiber, octagonal, cf, keyed, octagonal, cf and then keyed. If    you are getting 38 lbs of drag out of your stack then please disregard this. It does sound like the drag is smooth though.

cone, i gave it a go with the cf under the 2nd oct;
34lb and i stopped,my bimini slid down and tightened on the
spring scales,could have got to the 38lb,no worries
it was smooth as well,
your way and my way was no different that i could tell
you will have to give it a go and let me know

Wallace, after looking at your drag stack again are some of the carbon fiber washers cut into an octagon? If so I stand corrected. I have a few reels already with a similar setup. My stack only differs in the placement of the metal octagon washer.  Bob

cone, they were oct; but i filed them down
0.5 cf couldnt take the pressure.
did you put a delrin under the stack
as well as under the main gear?
im going to leave the stack like you suggested
it works fine
the 2 washers on the bottom of the stack
delrin,metal keyed need to be 1mm
the rest can all be 0.5
what do you think?

I have a delrin under the spool but I haven't put one in the stack yet. I put the octagon metal in first then a cf and keyed metal, octagon cf, keyed metal, etc. I haven't tested max drag but its more than I will ever fish with. It sounds like you have it figured out. The fish you catch sure shows what your reels can do.  Bob
