when i depress the clutch lever(#23)and go into freespool its smooth
wind the handle and the clutch lever only rises 3/4 of the way
pull line off it,  it feels like its climbing stairs.bump bump bump
it feels like its 1/2 way between freespool and engaged.
lift the lever with my finger and it properly engages
is this a crook  roller bearing?
thanks for any help

thanks alan
i got it sorted, the left side plate is magnetic and
ive never come across these before
there is 1/2 dozen indentations for the end of the spring and
one a bit larger it goes into the larger one
a young bloke(19)dropped off 4 reels(all beat up)
he has a box full of them, his dad owned a tackle shop
and never repaired any.the 1st 4 are completed,
its a challenge, most ive never seen before

this is the daiwa 253a,left side plate just screws off
2nd pic, on left, plastic frame with horse-shoe shaped spring, you can
just see the end sticking out, that goes in side plate, little hole at 10 o,clock
1/2" to the right in that same ridge is another 6little holes,i had the spring in there
so it would click, wrong!the centre piece is magnetic and the bearing goes in there
hope this helps someone else
cheers
