Penn Seagate w Wood Spool

Anyone ever seen one?   Pulled  this off another site.   Owner says the spool is wood

Be interesting to see the metal spool ends -- how they attach and interact with the pinion, bearings, and clicker.

Someone likely turned this piece to match the knob/handle they also attached.

Looks like Walnut maybe.

[Maxed Out]

Most of the later Seagate reels(1941/42) had plastic spools and likely the spool broke and the owner made a wood spool and used the shaft that came out of the broken plastic spool to make his wood spool work. Notice a huge amount of tolerance between the spool edge and the trim ring. Looks like big diameter line can foul up into there very easy. Also notice that someone has also modified the stem of the wood handle. Not factory there either. Wood nobs were common on the Seagate, but that's about all this reel has left going for itself.

This reel is a testament to what very ingenious people did during WW II to keep fishing. The original owner probably busted his plastic spool and did not want to spend for a replacement or could not find one. All the tackle makers were building stuff used to kill people in those days.

So he makes his own.
