I have searched high and low but could not find. Is there a list of parts that can be interchanged between the different Newell and Penn models?

Other than frame bars and reel seats, the only other part would be the main and pinion gears from the 200/300/400 series would fit Penn 505/506.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Are you saying that all of the parts for the 200/300/400 series would fit Penn 505/506, besides the ones you listed or the frame, bars and reel seats, main and pinion gears are the only parts that would fit those models?

Bryan Young

I only said that the main and pinion gears will fit.

Bryan, is this also true vice versa? I have a Newell S229-5 that's a bit too fast for bottom fishing. Newell 3:1 gears are impossible to find so a 4:1 gear/pinion set from a Penn 505/506 will fit? Since the 505/506 are t made anymore, will the pinion/gear from the 500L fit?

Thanks and sorry for the basic questions. I did a search but found conflicting info (some say I have to dremel the yoke or pinion part a little or "do at your own risk").

Well, I just just did a test fit of Penn's 4:1 pinion gear on a Newell 235 spool and as you can see, it fits.  The Penn 4:1 gear set should work on the Newell 200/ 300/ 400 series reels.

Another option for our Newell Reels.  Hooray!

Does anybody know which Peen reel base fits on a Newell 229?

I have a Newell Blackie 338 with 5:1 gears, what drags are these compatible with in the Penn line...500 or 505/506?

I am looking at upgrading to Bryan's 5+1 thin CF drag stack, but confused on which drags will fit.

Thanks guys.
I don't know how to do everything, but I know how to get everything done.

The 500 and 505 use the same 6-309 drag washers,

With my kit, all I need to know that you have a 338 Blackie and I know which kit you need.
