ben and ted's excellent adventure - 9/2015

at the risk of sounding like a broken record, i launched out of half moon bay with my co-worker, ben, and his friend ted, ran down to pescadero, fished mostly 60 feet or less, stuck a limit of blacks, a half dozen blues, 5 really nice vermillion, 3 cabs and four ling cod.  listened to the salmon guys out of half moon bay struggle.  we used jig's, swimbaits, and shrimp fly rigs with whole squid.  on the way out, i was telling ted about ben's kids using the laser minnow on the ultralight spinner.  ted grabbed that rig and started fishing with it.  he landed 5 blacks before ben and i got our first bites on flat fall jigs.  i switched over to a shrimp fly rig with whole squid and stuck 3 ling cod.

this vermillion tipped the scales at 5 pounds.

ben got all 3 cabs.

ted got a nice ling on bait.

all in all, a most excellent adventure!

No need for Rufus, you've got them dialed in.

how those flat fall jigs working?  Shimano?
I have moderate success using slow pitch jigs (Jigging World) down at hmb and only when the current is slow.

Alans Buddy

The flat falls worked well. Mine was a Shimano, 160g. Alan's was lighter, not sure of the weight of his.
Ted had better action with Alan's tried and true laser minnow.
Truthfully the Rockies were so thick, could've caught them with a banana.
Caught the cabs on white/glow Sumo Jr.
Lings seemed to like Alan's other secret weapon, whole squid on shrimp flies.
