Regarding the Surfmaster, yes, another great reel.  I inherited from my father an early '50s 200 in great shape, now narrowed to a 100 with aluminum spool, some stainless parts, Bryan's five-stack, and Newell bars.  It's a little workhorse, my goto tog reel.

BTW, some look down on the Surfmaster because it has spool bushings instead of bearings, but properly maintained bushings give plenty of free spool, more than enough to get me in trouble with an overrun if I'm not careful.

I have three 200's; totally agree you can polish shaft and lube and you will be trying to reign it back....
