This is a 12/0 Stead reel. These don't show up too much. It has star drag, clicker on the tail plate and push button brake on the head plate rim. Before going out on his own Stead worked for J. A. Coxe.

Thanks Brian - neat piece for sure, looks unused!

A couple little things I find interesting..

1)Not much torque available on that little star I would think...?

2) No spool tensioner on the side plate?

3) Look like small Holes on the harness braces.

I love posts showing these old beasties...

Simple elegance.  That reel has several features reminiscent of an LA Coxe.

Nice. That black drag star lends a unique look.

Great piece Brian. Unmistakable cosmetic relationship to a Joe Coxe reel. I wonder if you ever had it apart and how similar the internals are to Coxe styles?

Nice, Brian! Looking at the short handle arm, what's the gear ratio? I bet it's relatively low, less than 2:1?

The internals might tell an interesting story, being the outside is so Coxe similar and the maker was a former associate of Joe Coxe. I have never had the opportunity to own a Stead, maybe someday.

Very nice reel. Unusually clean for a reel you did not break down.
