Shakespeare 2062drag

Hi all. I have an all metal Shakespeare 2062 that I like to use for Sacramento river striper bank fishing. I changed the drag to CF with Cal's grease. The drag is smooth when it is tight, but jerky when it is loose. What's happening? Thanks.

Check the flatness of your drag washers A quick lap on some glass might help things along.
