14/0 anti reverse issue

I had a busy weekend.
Took the grand kids to Coney Island Saturday for our Company Picnic.
They wore me out!
Went to my Grandpa's 92nd Birthday Party on Sunday and finished the day mowing the lawn.
I had a 14/0 on the table I have been needing to go through.
Instead of going to bed, I stayed up, knowing I had to get up at 4am.
Got her all cleaned up, but when I buttoned her up. The reel would turn both directions?
I gave up after two or three tries and the clock struck midnight.
Got home from work last night after thinking about it all day, and pulled the main out of the sideplate.
I bent the stainless dog.
I guess it got on top of the sleeve. I need to slow down.

I have plenty.
She is purring like a kitten now, more like a Tiger!
I will however not throw it out.
I'll take it to work with me and give it some love taps on a 10 ton press.
Hopefully I won't smash it.
I was just surprised I bent the piss out of it without realizing.
This was a first.
I try not to work on reels when I'm tired, but that seems to be an every day thing these days.

That press was a 40 ton. It made quick work of straightening that dog.
You can still see the chewed up portion a little bit where the stainless ratchet had its way. I will fix that.

That looks a whole lot better.  Usable even.  I can't believe you tightened down the bridge enough with that in the way.    I can't tell from the orientation, but isn't that chewed spot the same place every other older brass sleeve starts to build a knife edge?

I didn't even snug the screws very tight. It was between the ratchet and steel main gear.
I have altered the way I assemble the 14 and 16/0 now so this doesn't happen again.
The main gear will slide right through the side plate on these.
I can see the dogs through the plate and make sure they are oriented correctly.
Then install the stack and washers with Cal's.
I'm lucky I didn't crack the plate.

Nice recovery though!  Knowing that the main can slide in after the fact is nice to know.

Wow D, never heard of that before, but if anyone can do that it's you.  Can't believe that thick piece of stainless can bend so easily, but I always knew you must had superhuman powers.
I do the same with the 14/0 and 16/0 otherwise the drag stack falls out when it's upside down.  I don't add grease to my vintage reels as they are shelfies and will not be used so theres nothing to hold them in the main gear.  The main gear is easier to put in after as well, like you said.
