One of my Penn spinfisher V 4500s anti-reverse seems to be going bad. It does not work about half of the time. Has anyone ever experienced this and know what is likely to be the issue?

The instant anti-reverse bearing is slipping. This is most frequently caused by salt and corrosion. If you disassemble your reel, clean the bearing and lubricate it **lightly** with Corrosion-X you may be OK. Replacing the bearing is obviously an option as well.

I will take it apart and see if anything looks corroded. I looked through the exploded parts list for the SSV4500 and didn't see anything labelled anti-reverse bearing. Do you know what number that bearing is on the parts list?

Key 98 Or Penn Parts #98 SSV3500 (clutch /sleeve) anti reverse, as it is sometimes called. Over oiling the spool shaft can be a culprit as well.
The excess oil drips down the shaft into the bearing.
