Looking for ideas. Recently purchased a used Shimano Calais CL 200 Mg-5. I would like to use it for Steelhead in the northwest ( drift fishing). Line capacity is a issue I didn't consider when I purchased. I use Fluorocarbon line. Reel capacity is only 10 lb/95 yards. Most reels I use are 12 lb/120 yards. Is there a aftermarket spool that will fit this reel that would hold more line? If not its braid or sell. Thanks.

welcome!  there might be an aftermarket spool, but you already have nearly a football field's worth of line.  i don't think a steelhead will take that long of a run.  i'll bet you'll be ok.  spectra is certainly an option.
send me an email at alantani@yahoo.com for questions!

under a float, PE might be ideal -- really easy to mend the line & set the the hook at distance, with a long rod

if you want your line to sink, regular (non-sinking) PE will irritate the snot out of you without a long fluoro top-shot

another option is pre-stretched mono: a 100m(110yd) guide spool of 12 lb. tippet should fit
SA 1X is fairly affordable, Japan-made, stronger than 12# & thinner than 10# Trilene:

same goes for Tectan, but I don't think it's German-made, anymore:

(Stroft is -- if you can find it on this Continent)

Thanks for your responses. I have decided to go braid. 15 lb has a diameter of 6 lb. that should give me around 140 yards. I will use this as my light drift rod. I have a Calcutta Conquest 200 for mono applications. I use a spinning reel for jig and bobber. Stradic 3000 FJ, best stradic to date in my opinion.

The spool from the Calais 200ASV will fit, and has a larger capacity. Somewhere around 120 yards of 14 pound test. (BNT3285).

The ASV is a salt water version of the reel. The MG is a magnesium spool that is not ideal around brackish or salt water.

Southwestern parts has the spool.   https://www.southwesternparts.com/code/orderparts.php3

Never was so much owed by so many to so few.

You could also put a floro top shot over braid backing.

don't go cheap -- good braid w/ same diameter as 6lb., should be at least 20 lb...  but it packs on a spool differently, so you'll get a bit less than 140 yds.
