Just when I think I've seen everything, something comes along to prove that wrong......like this 9/0 senator  ;)  ;)

Vintage Offshore Tackle

A lever drag (sort of) 9/0!

Handle arm is threaded. Bar on outside is a fixed stop allowing one rotation of handle, minus a few degrees. Drag self-adjusts depending on how hard you crank, and can be lessened by back-cranking. Similar to ABU's Ambassadeur Synchro models.

Doc was the only guy that I figured could do something like this. It self adjusts just as he described. The blade has a star with "s" in middle stamped on underside. It's the only makers mark I can see

Haha, no-- not me. Not guilty.

Somebody made these commercially for a while. Don't remember who. Sumo?

Too cool, wondering how it works in real life though...Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

Robert, did the kit include the handle?  That is one beast of a handle.
Thanks
Dom

Top of gear sleeve is hex shaped to fit the lever. The handle is threaded onto the gear sleeve and is also the "pusher" for the drag stack. The lever itself never moves position, its optical illusion. The handle screws down and lever seems to move, but it just handle screwing down onto gear sleeve to compress the drag stack...reeling backwards sounds strange, but it just takes a slight back motion to loosen drag if needed, then back to reeling

Rest of internals are what you'd expect in a modern 9/0

Great find. The handle is art.

I never noticed the sticker under the seat till now. Very certain this is the maker of this kit.

Hopefully someone can translate or add some info

Thanks, Ted

I would like to see how this would work in an actual fishing situation as well!  Hope so some time.   Kinda cool idea.  automatic compensation,  like the Smartshift reel,  and your new cars anti loc brakes.   Thanks for sharing. :D
