Ultegra 10000

Opened the drag stack,,as you can see,it has a few drag washers made of what feels like felt. I am used to carbon fiber and usually clean and re grease with Cals,,but that doesn't seem to be an option here. What should I do to these white felt like washers,if anything. Thanks

Gotta Ultegra 14000 XTD. So far a great lightweight surfcaster, but basically a "plastic" reel. Yeah I replaced the felt with carbon-tex. This'n ain't gonna get a big Ulua in without alota luck, though.

If you don't want to replace then with CT, then just lightly oil them. They are known as 'Japanese Oiled Felt'. Prone to drying out and sticking to the metal plates if left with the drag tight. Otherwise quite serviceable for most medium duty surf fishing situations.

Replaced one of the spools of my wife's Ultegra 5500 which she uses for competitions, no real noticeable difference - certainly not additional pressure available.

On a 10000 I would probably try a light synthetic grease in them instead, might last a bit longer under pressure.  Anyone else care to comment?

Just a little light machine oil, like 3 in 1.

The lack of CF drag is one of the drawbacks of these great reels, as well as the mickey mouse handles that despite many years in production, and updates they have failed to improve.

As a light to medium distance casting surf reel, the whole Ultegra series are awesome, getting great distances beyond traditional spool shaped reels. Incredibly popular in Europe with the surf and carp scene, strong enough for a lot of fishing, but not as someone mentioned Giant Trevally. Though my wife routinely takes 30-40lb small sharks with hers, and it is still gong well after 4-5 years of salt and sand.
