The rougher drag will smooth out once you catch a few fish with the reel. Many times just holding the spool and turning the handle to feel the drag in any reel can be misleading. 10 lbs of drag will be hard to hold the spool still and crank the reel to feel the smoothness of the drag.

Most here that fish Avets fish wet drags even though Avet says it is not needed. This will smooth the roughness and you really don't lose any drag preformance.

With 30 lb test you will slay the fish with that reel trust me.

My avatar is a pic that I caught those YT on my Fathom 25N star drag with 30 lb topshots and was ready to catch more.

Here is a pic of a fish I caught on my JX 6/3 on 40 lb toppers and not even a Raptor. I also fish Baja's Sea of Cortez and have caught sailfish, marlin, YT, amber and almaco jacks as well as pargo, grouper and many other hard fighting fish with the non-Raptor JX 6/3.

I think you are covered bro
