Here is another one going to Bullseye54. We started off with a Calstar
RT130 blank and an old vintage butt (not sure if it is rosewood or not) and
then made a couple of winding checks out of Linen/Phenolic laminate rod.
Used large cork rings and then installed some vintage Finor rollers.
The thread is Gudebrod nylon from old stock. This is scheduled to go to PEI
for Bluefin Tuna next year. I really hope it lands a dandy and someone can
get a picture of it bent over. I'm sure John might add a couple more pictures
as he is going to use his new 20/0 reel on it and is that reel impressive!

Love the overall vintage look.

Great work, Dave!

Doesn’t get better than that...

Best,

“Of course, now I am too old to be much of a fisherman, and now of course I usually fish the big waters alone, although some friends think I shouldn’t. Like many fly fishermen in western Montana where the summer days are almost Arctic in length, I often do not start fishing until the cool of the evening.

Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

I am haunted by waters.”

Thanks folks! I really enjoy doing rods like this and John seems to give me so many. I bring him 2 and he gives me 4 to redo.
The new one is going to be a real challenge. An old Montague that has been stripped down and he gave me a few pictures of
what it was like. Only time will tell.
