Conditions looked great for an evening ledge bite, so I went out solo for a Pau Hana quickie yesterday.

Left the dock at 6pm, spread set by 615, lots of bait and scattered birds just outside the ledge 2nm from head bouy. I found a bait ball and made a downhill pass. As soon as the boat passed by, 1 Ono grabbed the short corner Firecane/Firecracker on his way 5' outta the water. The line cracked tight while the fish was in the air, and the hooks popped. 20 seconds later an Ono streaked across the surface and hit the long corner (ice blue jet), but the hooks didn't stick. Before I could get back to the bait to drop it, the short rigger (Tsumatu Pua Invert) popped. This one stuck, brought a nice little 18lber to gaff. Packed the fish, reset the spread and worked the area until 715pm. Back at the dock and all buttoned up by 8.

I dropped the fish on the block this morning around 0900hrs. Freshest of 5 troll-caught Ono, 32.4deg temp.

Its nice when you can go out for an hour and get some action.
