I have a Tib frame spool combo 99 sized reel. I've installed a Pro Challanger JM 500X package. Would this combo be a viable 40lb reel for live bait / jig work ? I was thinking 50 or 65lb braid with topshot...
What do y'all think ?

Cool
I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6...

I have that package in a 501 with 50lb braid and 40 mono and it's a workhorse, you should be fine. Don't know the max but 40 is doable
Do what you can with that you have where you are

I fish reels much smaller with 40. You'll have no problems.

12 pounds of drag should be easy.
