Turns out the "supposedly" good O-rings I supplied with the shift levers were actually junk and will dry out and deteriorate whether the reel gets used or not. Soaking them in oil bath helps them last much longer, but learned that too late.

I now have much better O-rings and will send replacements to anyone that would like to replace the original ones. Please PM your address and how many O-rings you'll need.

My apologies for the screw-up. These new ones have been tested by me, in prolonged constant extreme weather exposure and still like new

Here is the old O-rings on the left.......and the ones I'm now using on the right. These can also be purchased at Mcmaster for anyone wanting to have extras on hand, just use the info off the package pictured (click on pic to enlarge)

Hi Ted,
I have 5 of your shifters I bought from Mystic, even bought 1 extra o-ring kit for each one.
I made my purchases from them in the last 6 weeks or so, not sure if I have the good
batch or not?
Thanks,
Darin

MysticParts does have the good ones on any levers sold in last 9 months or so.

Defective o-rings are all on my shoulders and don't want to burden Maureen with the hassle. McMaster-Carr carries them for anyone who wishes to have some extras stashed away.

Hate to bother you but can you post a link for the O-rings on McMaster Carr. I can't make out the SKU in the picture and I don't want to order the wrong ones. Thank you!

As usual Ted, you have gone above and beyond the call of duty to take care of your customers.  I have one of your original shift levers on a reel that I have been using heavily for two or three years and haven't had any problem with the O-rings, but I have a bunch of old Pro Gear shift levers that need O-rings and I am pretty sure that the one that you use is the right size.  Is this the correct McMaster-Carr part?

You're better off using o-rings made of Viton. It's just about indestructible and won't harden or crack.

EPDM is an ideal choice for saltwater and sunlight exposure. Viton doesn't offer any advantages for this use, but does cost more.

Thanks for the info Tom, I'll look into those..... I've been testing the EPDM o-rings for 2 seasons now and fished over 100 days with them and still like new.

We left some of these sitting outside in direct summer sun, then thru wet fall weather, thru winter snow, then thru summer again, and they passed the test in flying colors.

These are the original one you posted:

008   3/16   5/16   0.176"   0.316"   Durometer 70A (Medium)   ASTM D2000   -70° to 300°   Black   100   1289N108   6.31

Is this also the ones Three se7ens is referring too?

Thanks,
