P Series
S Series
L Series
R Series

The P Series is is the most expensive, assume it has to be the best of the four.
The S Series is the next, to the L Series Left Handed??) and last the R Series.

The ratios are all the same, the components have to be different.  What's makes each one different from the others?

FWM0103, you basically answered your own question.  The more aluminum parts in the reel, the higher the retail cost.  But that doesn't automatically mean the P-series is "better" than the less expensive S-series.  What I found out the hard way is that the more aluminum parts in a saltwater reel, the more maintenance you need to do, not a major problem unless you are lazy like me.

One common trait of all Newell reels is that no two production batches seem to have exactly the same internal parts from the factory.  Used reels are even worst.  Most are okay, but I've come across a large number on auction sites that I term a "Frankenreel", built with a mismatch of parts.
