Buying reels at estate sales, off ebai etc... What to look for?

Very interesting post.  I think if you collect to display, what you're looking for will be different from what someone seeking user reels might look for.  Garage sales or thrift shops have always been the best sources for me, prices are the best & you can see/hold just what you're going to get. Lots of surprises; never know what you might find.  Ebay is OK; buy single reels that are in good shape & forego junkers if you want a particular model.  I like buying lots (i.e. several reels sold as a package) off Ebay; cheap & you spread the shipping over numerous items, but pass on the lots that are just a pile and look like someone dumped them out of a pail.  Keep in mind: if you get a stinker despite your best efforts to avoid it, you have just increased your stock of spare parts.
