I have serviced and owe a Trinidad myself, but I have never opened a Torium before. I am curios about the difference, apart from the absent centrifugal brake in the Torium 16 and above.

The Torium has a  bush (Nylon?) supporting the LH end of the Drive Shaft whereas the Trinidad has a ball bearing there. The Toriums all appear to have a Rod Clamp fitting.

Thanks, I guess the two reels are very close in both performance and durability then?

Very similar reels although the Trinidad handle is a much better fit than that of the Torium. Basically the Torium  has fewer ball bearings and is a cheaper version of the Trinidad. Performance appears similar as I  do not cast with either reel.

Its a brash bush, take it out throw it away and replace with the corresponding trinidad bearing. it has the habit of wearing down the driveshaft and getting stuck to the frame. both reels cast very well, the torium 20 and 30 are some of the most popular surf fishing reels in our neck of the woods
