I was cleaning out my avet sx(single speed). I decided to remove the left and right side spool bearing sheilds. Do you guys remove the sheilds on the break bearing(pt. #17)? Just trying to get better freespool. Thanks for the help, i just found this site the other day. Thank you guys for putting up all this info in one place!

I remove only the spool bearings sheilds, clean them and use a very thin lubricant, like TSI301, reelX, corrosionX,...

The break bearing is packed with grease and the exterior of the bearing is rubed with a rag to remove excess grease.    The same with the pinion bearing.

You may also open and clean teh break bearing if you wish, but it will not help freespool.

If the reel is important to you, it's worth fixing.
If the reel catches fish, it's worth fixing.
And that is why we enjoy working on reels so much...it means something to someone.
