we're all still pretty badly jet-lagged.  i set the alarm for 7am and got up at 6:30 anyway, so i guess i'm starting to get over it.  i still had to wake allison up, just like i did while she was in high school.  i hope this does not carry through to college, but i suspect it will.  i made her the usual ham, egg and cheese sandwich and coffee for breakfast, ran off to the atm to get her some money, and still had a half hour so i washed her car.

at 8am, she was off.

the rest is up to her.  as for me, it's back to work!

Welcome back Alan !!!  UC Davis is a great school.  My wife's son graduated from Davis and really enjoyed his time there.

Lots of luck to Allison, I'm from the NE but heard good things about UCD.
Me and my daughter visited UC Berkeley a little while back, but she settled with BU.

what tears?  i just woke up from a 2 hour nap!  i feel like i woke on on jupiter.  everything feels 10 times harder.  i was on the computer this morning and could barely keep my eyes open.  this jet lag stuff is no fun.  when my uncle flies from japan to here, he sleeps for 2 days.  now i understand why!

Alan:  Congratulations to you and Joy.  I know it was tough for you and joy to say goodbye or so long (really, it's not good bye).  UC Davis is a great school so all of you made a good choice.  Tell Allison, I can pick her up from Davis when I go up to ski.  I am also in the market for a snowmobile, so she'll have something to look forward to if I end up buying one.  Sal mentioned tears, but you made light of it.  I think I know you and Joy, so there had to be some choking up when she drove off.  Wow!  Allison sure had to be emotional and somewhat frightened heading off on her own.  Good luck Allison.  Dominick

well, actually, i am very excited for her.  everything, the car, the fishing trip, the ski trip, the trips to the range, the credit cards and checking accounts, and all the long talks, were all about getting her to the point where she would have confidence in herself so that she could take this next step.  when it comes to your kids, if we knew there was a danger, anyone of us would move heaven and earth to keep them safe.  but it is not something we can predict.  so what you do is get them out, push them a little, and let them see what the world is like, so that they will make the right decisions when faced the same hard choices that we all had to make.  most important is in the relationship department.  i will poke fun at my wife once in a while, but i would never be disrespectful or abusive.  hopefully she as seen that as an example of how a man should be, and never settle for anything less.

Well said Dom, Alan, and Sal. We raise our kids, hope we do it right, and, with trepidation, send them off into the world. UCD is a great place to learn and I have to believe Alan and Joy have given the girls a great start.  Wink

Awe, we didn't have a chance to say aloha and itarashai. I'm sure she will be fine. I was just a bit surprised to hear that you guys didn't go up with her like most parents, but your not like most parents, you two are better.

Allison, good luck and have lots of fun because when you get out, it's work. Smiley
