Subject: RE: Avet SX 5.3 Reel Question

Alan,

Thanks for the quick response and including your cell.  I will try not to bother you, but I appreciate the gesture.  I spoke to AVET as you suggested and ordered the set of bearings ($25 – seems pretty cheap for 6 bearings?).  While I was on the phone with them I asked about the drag washer.  In your SX teardown, you showed both sides of the drag washer and when I had trouble getting it out, I thought it might be corroded to the spool.  When I finally did get it out, the washer looked glazed on the spool side and I was going to order another one.  AVET explained it’s glued to the spool with a special two part adhesive and not designed to be removed.  You might want to update your teardown so others are aware that at least some models have that feature.

Thanks again for the encouragement!

crap!!!!!!!!!  you're right, i never patched that post over to the website.  i just corrected that error.  a slow cure two part epoxy should take care of the drag washer.  let me know if you have trouble.  alan
