Im sure many of you know how "modable" the Ambassadeur reels are.

I came across this article about adding a bait clicker to the smaller 5500C3 reel.
Other than a larger spool, the clicker is one of the nice features that was added to the 6500 models, but not the 5500 models.

Anyone ever done this, or added a clicker to a 5500?

The simplest solution is to put 6500 left side plate into 5500 reel.

I've been thinking of using a dremell like tool to do it into 5500 side plate but never got that far.
The reason was that I wanted to preserve the original side plate untouched. So I ended up to get a new 6500 side plate.

What about avoiding cutting the slot by going to the older style button clicker in the face of the sideplate?  hookless has the parts cheap, n.o.s. and all you have to do is drill the hole.

Good idea, when the lh plate on a rh reel is a flattie, not a palming roundie plate.

So sorry, to me there's no other kind!

Ya, me as well.... I fish reels from the red rippled 60's all the way through the resurrections. I wish I was on the ball before Abu ran out of replacement plates, and bought a few. But Jerry (hookless) still has a few left.

The link in the first post is broken, so I added another link that addresses the matter with illustrations.

I'm thinking about adding clickers to an old beaten up but still mechanically sound Abu 550 Plus and another to an Abu 4600.  Parts are only $2.99 for this transformation. This old Abu 5000B is close to being retired even though it is fully functional.

The clicker sideplate was standard issue on most 5600 models providing an easy swapover provided you were not too concerned about colour matching.

Those copper leaf clickers were just a brief experiment for a short while but ABU ultimately returned to their much superior tried and true traditional design.
