Hi guys
I "found" my 540 Newell in my garage it is old but I think I can rescue it
it is missing a few bolts and has a bent ring, it gave me many fish trolling plugs
but now I am thinking in converting it to a narrow version,
for bottom jigging yellows and "bayas" or big  groupers.
I have a few 2 speed reels and I should not bother with this, and just seel the reel,
but what the heck,  problem is finding the parts.
I need the clip at the end of the shaft, and blots for the bridge,
and about the narrow spool and clamps etc,
what do you recommend, where to buy them or if any of you have them let me know
also what sizes fit to make a narrow conversion, Tiburon, Penn, etc.

You can convert the 5.5 to a narrow kit easily but it is of course costly. Around 160 for the kit which is a Tiburon Frame and Spool.

What condition are the bearings and drags. Bryan Young on this site has the 5 stack drags that are wonderful. I set up 533 NK a while back and lifted a 40 lb dumbbell with it.
You can email Gregg Chow at chowderpuff7@yahoo.com and tell him that I sent you and he should sell you a kit for a few bucks less than his listed ebay price. He will also have bearings for you.
You could box it up and send it to me and I can build it for you if you aren't up to it.
Hope that helps.

Alan, by the way, I have one of your 533s.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

I got the parts today woohoo
I can wait to start the conversion

Also I noticed the reel cracks a little harder than normal
It is not as smooth as my other reels
Any ideas of what it could be?
So I can look at it when I take it apart

Thanks
Have a great day
