Well, good old "gumtree" got me again. I just had to buy this ABU 12 when I saw it. They are not a frequently seen model and this is the first one I have ever seen in the "flesh".
It is a single speed, 4.2:1 and holds 420mts of 20lb mono. According to the reel foot, it was made in 1982.
It is the same size as a 9000 and weighs 520gms.
The side plates are satin chromed brass and the frame is black chromed brass.

I will post some pics of the insides when I have it apart. These old ABUs are very finely and precisely made.
The condition of this one is a credit to it`s previous owner, who also owns it`s twin.

Yes, give it a go. I have bought a lot of reels from the west off Gumtree.

Hi Steelfish
Yes, I did make a comment on that thread. I love the way the thumb screws on the side plate of the older models were unslotted. It goes to show they were really only meant to be finger tight. My old red 7000 had them.
I was looking at a 7000c like yours yesterday but it was pickup only. Great reels!

LOL you're right, sorry I didnt remembered.

I really loved the 6500c3 and still like it for shore or inshore, but this 7000 size feels 3x sturdier

Back to the Ambassadeur 12.
Under the right side plate is all stainless once the gear and sleeve are removed.

The drag has a feature that my Shimano Triton Mark 1 has, which is a working drag washer under the main gear.

This model was made from 1974 to 1985 and enjoys very little plastic.
cheers
