Got this cod amongst others today. This one was 35lb before gutting.
A Penn Senator 113HLW with custom crank made it easy to haul in. A walk in the park.
I also got two 20lb cods and one 15lb cod at the same time. That's 55lb of cod on the line. Again, no problem.
Well built reels makes codfishing easy. Well, I do have a nice rod and harness so that I don't have to use all my strength to just hold the rod. :-)

Too bad Penn doesn't make a closed face reel  :( They are much more "kid friendly"  :) At least the Zebco UL4 microlight is made in the USA  ;D
Not all fishing is done with rod and reel.

Unutt

The picture looks as if the young lady has a liplock on that red ear.
So many reels, so little time.

Nice fish.
I caught this 55 lb YFT without the upgrades so i know the reel will be able to handle a lot more.

That tunny is gonna make a heck of a meal for he and his deckmates on the rig.
Nice catch,

This photo reminds me of fishing tuna around the gulf rigs.  The rig hands were always quick to point out visable targets in the water below.  Sounds like that job has some excellent 'fringe benefits'.
Hope springs eternal
for the consumate fishermen.

Whenever a boat comes around, im sure to point them in the right direction.  No need to keep secrets.
Unfortunately we cant cook it in the galley since its not FDA inspected so i vacuum bag it, freeze it and take it home on crew change day.
