Hi Joe --

From what you describe -- first likely cause would be failure of the IAB -- anti reverse bearing in handle side.

These are prone to failure, and it is a simple fix.

The other issue -- if the bearing, did it fail under a heavy load? -- or due to poor maintenance and/or water intrusion?

A complete service, cleaning, and inspection might be in order.  This might reveal a different issue, if the bearing is not the culprit.  But I would eliminate that first.

waiting on bearing...actually a friends reel...he said while reeling in the reel would start free spooling...would the bearing cause this ..seen no other visual worn parts...

No use guessing -- when you replace the bearing -- it will either work properly or not.

If not, there is another issue -- the most common cause is a IAR bearing -- so we eliminate that first.

Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks,
