Thinking outside the box

On a recent trip (before the salmon closed off for the year) I went out on a rockfish trip. Got my limit (*one china cod, yum), a Ling, plus a decent cabezon as a bonus, so I decided to fart around with a barbless circle hook mooching setup for the last hour. Just going up and down the water column to see what would happen........what did happen?.....a 33 pounder.
