Braid directly to a Penn TRQ25N, Tape or no tape

The stuff I get is made by Johnson & Johnson I have tried the generic brands but their self adhesion stops working within a month or two as it sits in my tackle bag.

One thing I forgot to say to the OP is I thought the Torque reels came with a knurling on the spools arbor so no tape would be needed for added grip.

I have typicslly used a light coating or Caranuba wax, and tie the spectra directly to the spool with an arbor knot.  I guess the idea of tape on metal makes me think it might somehow trap moisture and promote corrosion there.  Though I admit this is a largely unsubstantiated belief.
