I've been talking to some knowledgeable people and I've started some builds. The first is my Mothers old 155 Beachmaster which I bobbed down and up graded to a nice little flounder reel. I'm having trouble posting pics ,I hope they work. If so I'll give more background.....bob v

YOu made a BayMaster. Quite possibly my favorite little reel. You can do a lot to the inside of these reels and turn them into the ultimate 40# braid reel. I caught a YT on one and had a ball.

Nice, I'm considering doing the same for inshore rockfish.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

I can't get this picture thing right , but boy is this a sweet little reel. I have a few Squidders I'm going to mag, and turn into a 145 or 146 and leave stock, but I figure I'd better mag one down since I haven't chucked one in about 40 years or so. I figure my thumb has gotten stupid again.LOL....bob v

Strip off a bit more line than you think you will cast,  tape the line on the spool and then wind the line back on, your backlashes will not go clear to the spool.

Very nice reel Bob, you will love it. I had a bunch in a box and never paid much attention to them.
Ron (noyb72) kept saying how much he liked those, so I decided to give them a try.
I'm glad I did, they're a pleasure to use. Mine are all narrowed, the ones that I use are magged, even though I use them on the boat.
Black Pearl is currently working on the stainless steel spacer bars for those and Three7ens should have the custom stainless steel handles shortly.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

You did a great job. That's a great little reel and will last a long time. You cleaned it well and it shows.

Well, it looks like the pics came thru so here's the inside poop. As noticed I cleaned the reel very well, I'm kind of anal about if it's worth doing it's worth the extra effort. Next I got a hold of a S.S. bridge sleeve, used one of Sal's Delrin washers under the gear (thanks Sal) Carbontex drag stack from Dawn and a spacer from Pro Challenger and the frame and spool from Tiburon. And last but not least the handle came from our own Richie Conway(Surfcaster). I wanted to keep the original tan bakelite handle. But Richie send me a bunch of handles to experiment with. One in there was a smaller handle 24-160 with a black knob. When I saw that handle I knew it had to be on that reel and so it is. I want to thank everyone envolved in this first build ,even if you don't know you contributed you did, just by shareing your experience. Looking forward to bringing some of these beauties back to life. Here's a little in your face. I was recently employed by a major sporting outfitter and they were bragging about there conventional reels(modern) I brought one of my Squidders in to be relined and when they asked how far do I think it will cast, I gave it a 38 second free spool  spin and asked them if they thought that was enough?LOL They all found something else to do real quick. Can't beat old school......bob v
