Alan,

first let me say you do a great job.  You helped me out with a handle for a 9/0 senator.  It makes a world of difference.

I have another favor to ask.  Out here on the east coast we kite fish for sailfish and about anything else.  To effectively do this, the reel must be set with the clicker in the on position just about the entire day.  I have a set of Avet LX reels that are great for the application.  they are light weight, fast retrieve and hold a pile of 20# mono.

The first issue with the reels was the inconssitant drag curve, but with some modifications to the cam and some extra metal drag spacers, we can get the reels to have a pretty decent and consitent drag curve.

The second issue is that the clickers are horrible.  I tend to go through a new clicker about 1 per season per reel.  (as opposed to a shimano tld 20 where I have never replaced one).

So my question is - do you have any ideas or thoughts on how to tweek the clickers on the reels to get them to be stronger and last longer?  would it be possible to put one in from a different reel?  or upgrade the springs that attach to the clicker?

I know people have contacted avet about the issue, but so far since the main focus of their clientel does not have this issue, it hasnt been addressed.

I figured with all the reels that you have taken apart and have access to maybe there is some after market fix for this problem.

Thanks so mcuh for the help.

without the parts in hand to check, my best guess would be to adapt the clicker from the  8:1 LX http://avetreels.com/pdf/LX8-0-1spd.pdf into your 4.6:1 http://avetreels.com/pdf/LX4-6-1spd.pdf  or 6:1 LX http://avetreels.com/pdf/LX_6-0-1spd.pdf.  that would be your best "off the shelf" bet.  after that, any clicker assembly would work.  it's just a matter of getting a click button that has the proper length and diameter post.  if you can get a click button that matches, then the next step would be to drill two small holes for the click spring screws.  these stainless steel screws would be self tapping.  it should work just fine.
