Penn Spinfisher question

Hey guys a couple of Spinfisher questions. I have a Penn 8500SS. Inside the spool was a drag stack that consisted of both CF and Teflon washers. The Teflon was on the bottom. I replaced the Teflon washer with a 6-60 CF washer. The drag stack feels a bit tighter in the spool but it fits. Are you guys replacing the Teflon washer with CF?

My other question is that I have a bunch of Spinfishers and they all seem to have a bit of rotor wobble. Every single one of them does it. The two I just bought did it before I took them apart. Is this just how these reels are? Perhaps these reels were designed before Penn started adding weights to counter balance the rotor. Any thoughts?

I replaced the Teflon washer with a delrin which I'm doing with all my reels. It seems to make them smoother at higher drag settings. The rotors seem to wobble a bit on all my SS series when I just spin them. I don't notice it when I am reeling in a fish. Maybe the tension on the roller offsets it. ???
Not all fishing is done with rod and reel.

When you tighten down the drag, The wobble isn't as bad. Its the Nature of the Beast.
Wallace came up with a killer set up on modifying the drag stack on these.

Here is the thread.

I think the wobble is less noticeable when it is mounted to a rod.

The more I get into fixing these reels the more I notice little stuff like that. It's not a big deal but it is something that I have overlooked after years of using these reels.

Every time one comes across the bench I toss the Teflon washers and add another HT-100. I have never noticed and change when installing.

Thanks Keith. I have it all put back together now and it feels really smooth.

If you're talking about the washer in the spool, I agree, but if you're talking about the thrust washer, I disagree.
Under fishing conditions you should notice that the Delrin washer is a better choice there.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

FatTuna

Sal which one is the thrust washer?

Shark Hunter

The thrust washer is under the spool.
