Ok so here goes!  Before I start shelling out cash for parts can I get someone with more experience to confirm what I am ordering?

1.  Bought a Penn 501 - Done
2.  Need to buy the Cortez Conversions side plates and bearing cap- Done
3.  Need to buy a Tiburon P21 topless frame - Done
4.  Need to buy the Pro Challenger Stainless Steel gear set Package C- Done
5.  5+1 Drag Stack from Bryon Young- Already installed
6.  Stainless Steel gear sleeve from Alan Tani- shipped
7.  Stainless Steel Spacer?- Not ordered yet
8.  Handle/Knob from?- Knob EVA, handle is still in limbo,

Thanks for the help!

What was the total cost on all that???

Now I'm wondering why you purchased that 501 ;D.
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Very good question.  The next build will be done with the same upgrades but just buying a few parts of eBay....Live and learn...

Just joking, I'm sure you still did good, a spool alone in decent shape will set you back  over $40.

A donor reel is cheaper than buying the parts. Springs, shift lever, bridge screws, eccentric.  We know Sal has drawers full of those parts, but for the rest of us it isn't that simple.

I recently bought a handful of donor jigmasters, so don't feel alone in that regard. Us northwest guys gotta stick together when the east lashes out at us. ;) ;)

I am pretty thick skinned!  But I will always take the support! We all learn in different ways!  I'm just slower than most!

Ok I have it all together with the thinned down spacer.  Everything is great except I am getting some movement that I can't fix.  The movement is coming from the gear sleeve, I think?  When grasping the star drag I can pull out the gear sleeve about 2/16 of an inch.  Is this amount of play normal?  What am I missing?

When you first got the reel, you said it was real tight. Now its loose?
Is the sleeve double drilled for two different pin locations?
If so, you need to go back to the tight setting.

You might be referring to the play that Sal discussed here....

Erik, those are not easy to find, I make my own.
The dimentions are ID 7.25mm OD 11.5mm. Thickness is usually .10mm.

SoCalPaddle here is a picture of what I mentioned above

By the way, McMasters Carr does carry the shims for the 113H, I use these Peel-Away Shims

That was a different issue solved with the spacer. This is the gear sleeve.

If there is not a second hole for the pin. You will need to shim it up to take the slop out.

I guess I missed the two hole conversation along the way. It does have two holes so I'll try that tonight

Once again, Thank you for the help!

Yep this fixed it.  Now I have to try and find another spacer that I just happened to have.  Does anyone stock these so I don't have to buy 24 of them at a time?

My local Ace hardware stocks a mylar washer .015" thick at various dimensions.

$0.80 per.

Works good.
